Database Research Summaries2018 Soybean Yield Response With Selected Establishment Factors and Special Inputs
Research Focus
The focus of this project is to examine soybean plant nutrition and potential yield enhancement inputs.
Objectives
Build on to NDSU databases on soybean yield impact by examining plant establishment and nutrition factors.
Results
- Row spacing and plant canopy growing season field notes and harvest were successfully
Yield among row spacing’s (7-inch pairs=54.3 bu/A; 14-inch=56.0 bu/A; 28 inch=49.1 bu/A) was statistically similar among row spacing’s. Averaged across row spacing’s, canopy closure dates were similar between the two plant types. The data indicates plant architecture is a minor consideration in variety performance. - Seed yield among plant nutrition treatments including the untreated check were statistically similar. The three seed inoculant treatments had similar yield (45.3-45.9 bu/A) and tended to be greater than the untreated check (40.2 bu/A). Soil- and foliar-applied S tended to have greater yield (50.4 and 43.5 bu/A, respectively) compared to the untreated check. The three special foliar inputs had similar yield (47.6-47.9 bu/A) and tended to be greater than the untreated check.
Importance
This data will be presented during NDSU tours and meetings and give farmers information they are requesting to increase soybean yield profitably.
