Iowa Soybean Research Center
The Iowa Soybean Research Center (ISRC) at Iowa State University was formed in June 2014 by approval of the Iowa Board of Regents. The ISRC works in partnership with the Iowa Soybean Association, industry leaders, farmers and researchers at Iowa State University. The goal of this collaborative effort is to identify and fund research in the areas of soybean production and protection. The center involves and helps coordinate research, teaching and extension activities of faculty and staff who work in the areas of soybean biology, breeding, economics, precision agriculture, production and pest management.
- Breeding for improved genetic gain, yield potential and quality
- Disease, insect and weed management
- Innovations in both biotechnology and agritechnology
- Study of soybean roots and microbiome
- Creation of new apps, sensors and 3D imaging and machine learning tools
- Research geared toward increasing productivity and sustainability
- Collaboration amount researchers, farmers and industry to identify research needs and gaps
- Research that identifies new and evolving technology
- Optimizing continuous soybean production
- Time of disease onset as an early indicator of soybean resistance to SDS
- Mechanisms of defense suppression by cyst nematode effectors
- In-field soybean seed pod analysis using 3D imaging and machine learning
- Root and Microbiome Traits to Tailor the Next-Gen Soybean Cultivars
Several projects funded by the ISRC have gone on to receive federal funding to expand scope of work and the researchers involved have created new tools that will aid in plant pathology research as a whole. The ISRC is also following a current project with interest that focuses on “Optimizing Continuous Soybean Production.”
