Research Focus
The focus of this project is to continue the effective, efficient and productive partnership between Michigan State University Extension and the Michigan Soybean Promotion Committee.
Objectives
- Fund the seventh annual soybean harvest equipment field day.
- Fund on-farm research projects evaluating products and management practices having potential to increase soybean yields and/or profitability in Michigan.
- Work with producer cooperators to improve shared understanding of tillage decision-making and tillage effects on soil health and crop performance.
Results
- Further evaluation can be done on herbicide programs and products for controlling certain glyphosate and ALS resistant weeds, foliar fungicides and foliar fertilizers.
- The usage of cover crops to reduce soybean cyst nematode populations and planting soybeans into a green cereal cover crop can now be investigated.
- Alongside the information from a larger GREEEN proposal, there will be development of a field-specific tillage decision-making model for Michigan soybean producers.
Importance
- Michigan soybean growers will have access to unbiased information on soybean products and management practices evaluated in on-farm trials.
- This partnership provides Michigan soybean growers with information relevant to their specific area of the state, such as herbicide programs and cover crop strategy.
